Directive 2014/35/EU ensures that electrical equipment provides a high level of protection for European citizens. ARTEM simplifies the documentation and risk assessment process, making LVD compliance straightforward and auditable. Ensuring protection from hazards arising from electrical equipment, including electric shock, fire, mechanical instability, radiation, and overheating.
What is the Low Voltage Directive?
The LVD is one of the EU’s core product safety directives. It applies to most electrical equipment designed for use with a voltage between 50 V and 1000 V for AC, and 75 V and 1500 V for DC. The directive ensures that electrical products are safe to operate and meet essential safety requirements before they can be CE marked and legally sold in the EU.
Key Scope Notes
The voltage refers to the input or output of the equipment—not internal voltages.
Applies to both consumer and industrial/professional equipment.
Covered Parties
Manufacturers (inside and outside the EU)
Importers placing goods on the EU market
Distributors handling compliant products
Essential Safety Objectives
01
Protection from Hazards
Equipment must be designed to protect people and domestic animals from the risk of physical injury or other harm caused by direct or indirect contact.
02
Temperature & Radiation
Products must not produce dangerous temperatures, arcs, or radiation that could cause a hazard.
03
Mechanical & Non-Electrical Safety
Protection is required against non-electrical dangers caused by the equipment, such as sharp edges or unstable parts, as foreseen by the manufacturer.
04
Insulation & Durability
The equipment must have adequate insulation for foreseeable conditions and be manufactured to be safe and durable in its intended use.
The ARTEM Pathway to LVD Compliance
1
Risk Analysis & Safety Assessment
Use our guided modules to conduct and document a comprehensive risk assessment, ensuring all essential safety objectives of the LVD are addressed.
2
Technical Documentation Assembly
Systematically compile your technical file, including design schematics, component lists, and test reports, in a centralised, secure, and audit-ready location.
3
Declaration & CE Marking
Automatically generate an accurate EU Declaration of Conformity based on your verified documentation, linking your LVD compliance to the overall CE Marking process for your product.
